Less Than a Month
My friends, it’s less than a month to my due date! Please continue to pray for a safe pregnancy, delivery, and baby. The final stretch is finally here, and I am relieved to be rounding the corner to the finish line! This past weekend, we hosted Miss Lady’s 8th annual Tea Party, and now that that’s completed, I’m pretty much ready for baby at any time. The crib is set up, baby clothes sorted through, diapers ready, diaper bag for baby is packed. Just a few odds and ends to tie up at this point in time. I’m trying to mentally shift gears to house cleaning and also food preservation…

Springtime Flurry
It’s the springtime flurry! Activity everywhere and non-stop. I start my days early and fall asleep by 9 most days, completely and blissfully exhausted. It’s been a very busy May, but it feels so good to be active after this past winter and the slow start I had to spring! I’ve been able to walk regularly the last few weeks, and what a difference it makes! Sure, I do get tired some days from all the activity between the gardens, house, and walks, but I can feel my strength and energy returning. The saying “You don’t know what you’ve got until you lose it,” is so true. I don’t enjoy…

Sauerkraut and Blue Corn
After feeling bogged down by potatoes and turnips the past few weeks, I’ve finally been able to turn my attention to some fun food preservation! I picked 3 large heads of red cabbage this past week, and I harvested all of my blue grinding corn. We even pressed our first batch of apple cider! I’m sure I seem weird to my family and friends, but I get so excited about all of the strange or different things I can do by growing my own food! My last sauerkraut endeavor was the year I sliced the tip of my thumb off. The kraut turned out just fine, but I was always…

Potatoes Everywhere
It's that time of year! We're swimming in produce over here. Some days are a little overwhelming, but the end product is so satisfying and worth the effort!

Let’s Talk About Food: It’s More Important Than You Realize
Let’s talk about food: It’s more important than you realize. I’m working on a series of posts that I hope will encourage people to take a closer look at their food and begin to have a better understanding and appreciation of it. With everything going on out in the world right now with this national quarantine, it’s more important than ever to take a look at this aspect of our lives. Our daily lives are centered around food, without us even realizing it. Honestly, I don’t think people give this a lot of thought. Until I started to garden, I didn’t realize how much we center our lives around food. From…

2019 Mid-Year Homestead Update
It’s been awhile since I’ve had time to write down what’s been going on around here. I figured I’d better type up a 2019 mid-year, homestead update before I forget! We’ve been staying very busy so far this summer. This past week was the most “summery” we’ve had all year, and even though it was busy, it was probably the most relaxing week I’ve had in awhile. The four older kids had vacation bible school Monday through Friday, and for 2.5 hours each day, I only had 2 kids to take care of. It was so quiet! I love having the kids around, but I really, really needed that break.…
